Hi, I’m Cate VanNostrand, and I’m the editor, writer, graduate student, and the founder of Redhead Revisions. I work with authors who care deeply about their stories and want professional guidance without feeling talked down to, rushed, or reshaped into something they’re not. My approach to editing is thoughtful, collaborative, and rooted in respect, for both the author and the work itself.
By day, I’m a content writer. By night, I’m a graduate student studying technical communication theory. And in between? I’m a freelance editor helping authors bring clarity and polish to their manuscripts wherever I can fit the time in.
I’m a Mid-South native with a lifelong love of words, a deep appreciation for well-told stories, and a firm belief in the morale-boosting power of dark chocolate.
Outside of editing, you’ll usually find me:
watching baseball with my dad (Go Mets!) and football with my siblings (Go Pack Go!)
tracing family history with my genealogically-minded mom
writing my own half-edited novels
or attempting (again) to bake perfect chocolate chip cookies (results pending)
I offer different types of author services, but my first love is editing. I know that giving your manuscript to another person is a huge step, no matter how many times you’ve psyched yourself to do it. I believe an editor’s job isn’t to “fix” a manuscript, but to:
help authors see their work from a different angle
strengthen the pillars that are already working, and
offer honest, constructive feedback that serves the story’s goals
I won’t force trends, erase your unique author voice, or rewrite your book for you. Instead, I’ll help you make intentional and thoughtful revisions so your story lands the way you want it to with readers, agents, and/or publishers.
